UMYC  PHRF  Fleet

"PHRF" is generally recognized in the sailing community to mean "Performance Handicap Racing Fleet."

We have a different twist: We mean "Performance Handicap Racing Fun!"

UMYC created the PHRF Fleet to provide a fun opportunity for sailors in a variety of keel boats to bring out their boat on Upper Lake Minnetonka and participate in:
- beer can races
- club racing
- post-race social parties

Our PHRF fleet races on most Saturday afternoons, and generally can be seen cruising the Upper Lake all days of the week.

Our PHRF fleet is intended for keel boats of many different sizes and types to participate.  Currently, our fun PHRF fleet includes Precision 21, Pearson Ensign, and Catalina 22.  But, there's room for you and your boat, too !

We welcome you to join our PHRF fleet !!

Full PHRF Fleet Rules

US Sailing defines PHRF as a locally administered handicapped system that uses the perceived potential of a keel boat as the basis for the handicap.  A handicap is assigned based on comparison with similar yachts.
