SAILBOAT RACING

For those who take sailing seriously … bring it on! We have some of the top racers in the country on our courses.

Throughout the summer, we run regular races on Saturday mornings and afternoon and Wednesday evenings. Come race with us!

We race in both the East and West Bays of Upper Minnetonka as well as Smithtown Bay.

We race the following fleets:

+

MC Scow

A nimble and forgiving 16 foot sailboat, the MC Scow is swift and fun to race. Frequently solo-crewed, but during heavy winds our skippers frequently look for some extra ‘ballast’ to help them keep the boat upright. A thrill to sail, always have a towel in the car when you ride on an MC. Our MC Fleet can be found every Saturday morning and Wednesday evening on the Upper Lake Minnetonka.

PHRF Fleet

Performance Handicap Racing Fleet or PHRF class is designed for keelboats. Our fleet include the likes of: Ensigns (22.5 ft)Precisions 21s,  and Catalinas 22s. Known as a drier and more stable sailing experience but with no less intrigue. Always a fun challenge. Our PHRF fleet race on Saturday afternoons and generally can be seen cruising the Upper Lake all days of the week.

The Racing Rules of Sailing

When racing a MC scow or PHRF boat, everyone needs to be aware of the 'rules of the road' when sailboats meet on the water.

For information about the Racing Rules of Sailing, see:

US Sailing Prescriptions - U.S. Sailing additions to the basic rules
- US Sailing Hearing Request Form - formerly known as "protest form"

MC -SCOWS: Agile, forgiving, fun
